Step Lair

Background: This weekend is already fully packed with Skid Centric activities, the skids live an hour away.  

SD9 was given a school project to do 5 weeks ago. It’s due on Monday. She had to make something with an axel and write up a poster for it and give a talk on it for Science. She mentioned this to me, and I said that we would help if we could. (We did all of the last project with her because BB couldn’t be bothered.)

Anyway, we had the kids two weekends ago - SD9 and my Dad went down to the shed and knocked up a minature billy-cart out of scraps of wood for her. (It’s really cool!!) When they came back in, SD9 says to me “Mum wants me to let her help with this project because I let you and Dad help with the last one. She wants to make the poster and cards for the talk.”  whatever. I’m relieved because the last time we did a project, it took all weekend to track down the information, write the stuff, print it on cards etc. so I was secretly glad not to do it despite BB’s ridiculous attitude.

So on Thursday last week, SD9 says “Mum wants you to email her all of the information to put on the cards and poster for the project.”  DH says, “I will if I have time”. If BB wants to do the project, then SHE can do all the research on it. (But of course, that’s not the “fun” bit.. that’s the boring easy-to-not-acknowledge bit)  He doesn’t email anything.

Fast forward to this Thursday. SD9 says on the phone “We have to do the poster for the project and the cards for the talk this weekend because you didn’t email Mum anything like you said you would.”

Our weekend is already packed, and now we have to do this  school project.

DH should just have said “no” to the request for information. All we would have done is look it up on google. I don’t see why she couldn’t do that? And after all, she works at a college, with an onsite library.. 20 mins there would have found her all the information she needed.  It’s not like we are the only ones who have the ability to find the information! (And doing the research WITH the child is part of the project. .)

Seriously, BB is just too lazy to look it all up herself. She just wants to be MOTY , while making DH do the bits she can’t be bothered to do.

Next time we will be handing it ALL over to BB.

“Well Mummy wanted to do it last time, we’ll just leave it ALL up to her this time, as we did the last two.”

DH and I are going to be up all hours of the night getting this  thing done because BB isn’t going to lift a finger like she said she would.

As if Skid weekends weren’t tiring enough!
Update:

We got most of the project done.

BB had not supplied the kids with any of the stuff to do them with, so we had to go and buy it all.  She’s had 5 weeks - hasn’t even bought a piece of cardboard! Ir maybe she is just too cheap. 

SS13 had a project to do as well. I guess at least that kept him busy.

I went to bed at 10:30pm Saturday night and left them too it. (Except DH woke me up at 11pm to ask me where the glue was. )

We didn’t get the cards or the speech done.. I guess BB will have to have been up all hours Sunday night to get it done.

We did as much as we had time for.
